I agree, Charlie. Hector is stunning and if he was in my local pound I'd have to run down and snatch him out. Even though I know that in the long run temperament is what's most important, looks certainly attract me to dogs.

the gorgeous Hector has got a secure rescue place, I hear, with Greyhound Rescue West of England http://www.grwe.com
Sad news for anyone in Ireland who would want to adopt him, good news for someone in England or Wales, and probably offers Hector the best chance of finding a good longterm home.

Another absolutely charming lurcher has landed in Dunboyne: Jack lovely black and tan with white markings, looks young, loves people
http://petsireland.i...showtopic=79852

There is also a pretty blue lurcher at Craigavon pound, Co Armagh, N Ireland -- looks like a petite greyhound (but bigger than a whippet). also a medium sized black with white male. I don't think Craigavon has anyone who works hard like Martina to see that many of the dogs do leave the pound for a better life

Ref 2264, Lurcher, Female, William Street, Lurgan, date taken to kennels 5/10/11, date rehoming can take place from 11/10/11

SIGHTHOUND STROLLS is advertising a small brindle whippet, Richie, who I think will be snapped up. They also feature a lively roughcoated white and black smallish lurcher female Angie and a young white and fawn short coat with feathering male, Sam, who appears to be cat friendly.
http://www.sighthoun...gi?board=rescue

DUBLIN SPCA has several shorthaired lurcher pups approx 3 mo old and also adult greyhound type lurchers (some probably smaller than greyhounds)
http://www.dspca.ie/...alsNeedingaHome

Dunboyne pound has another lurcher in (what's new?) and so does Craigavon (Co Armagh, N Ireland)
CRAIGAVON POUND
http://www.craigavon...og-control.html

DUNBOYNE POUND

Poor Luca. So many lovely whippets and lurchers needing homes in Ireland. Wish I had the means and a way to help a few.

I was pleased to hear that Hector found his home.

I'm still browsing. Dublin Dogs Trust has a few greyhounds and a number of lurchers, see all the photos at http://www.dogstrust...s-for-rehoming/
Unfotunately the descriptions are very brief, don't say much about the dogs' characters
Dogs Trust, Ballymena, N Ireland has a black whippetx bitch pup under 6 mos old, Ella http://www.dogstrust...lla1063955.aspx

Kildare, male lurcher 10 mos old, friendly, good with other dogs: http://www.ispca.ie/...ming/view/putin
Co Cavan,female greyhound friendly http://www.ispca.ie/...white_greyhound
Co Longford, handsome fawn male lurcher good family dog http://www.ispca.ie/rehoming/view/andy
Co Roscommon, large brindle male greyhound type, placid temperament http://www.ispca.ie/...ming/view/Regan

Co Derry, N Ireland http://www.rainbowre.../dogs_line1.htm
Cassie is a greyhound who preferably will be rehomed with her Rottweiler companion
Larry is a lurcher who needs to recover his health and strength before he can be rehomed. but he has an excellent temperament

Wendy http://www.irishanim...klow_homes.html black whippetX pup female

Shadow http://www.irishanim...eath_homes.html particolour male whippet

Richie http://www.irishanim...agreyhound.html brindle male whippet  (lots of other sighthounds on this page of course)
I've mentioned Richie before; he hasn't got a home yet it seems. One of the long-term entries on this page is Mr Neeson, a very attractive large black and tan lurcher reported to have a good personality. I don't understand why no one has adopted Neeson yet!

greyhound type male, rescue place or foster home URGENTly needed for stray found in Co Wicklow has only very short-term fosterage at present

Collooney kennels is looking for a home together for 2 six year old whippets coming to them for rehoming, one male & one female

photos and email links are on the Irish animal webpages

Tabby is 6 months old. She is vaccinated, wormed and neutered. We are unsure of her exact breed but think one of her
parents may have been a lurcher, whippet or similar dog. She is looking for a new home through no fault of her own. She is
a fast learner so is house trained and quickly learning her commands. Tabby is full of energy so loves long walks as well
as lots of cuddles and rubs. She will need to be rehomed as an only dog as she can be a little confrontational with other
dogs. She is also very nervous around small children so would be happiest in a house with older children. Tabby is devoted,
protective and loving so be a wonderful addition to any home.

is a lovely 10 month old Brindle and White Whippet and I was so tempted to keep him myself as he is great with all my small
dogs and loves being in the family home with us all. He is perfect on the lead and is almost house trained. I cannot praise
this boy enough and his recall is excellent. He is Neutered, Vaccinated, Microchipped. Our dogs will only be homed to

NIAR lists a black male whippet ~8 mos old, housetrained, at Downpatrick pound, Co Down, Northern Ireland 22 Nov. This dog isn't featured at the Corran Kennels website, but if you are interested in adopting or fostering this dog you can enquire directly to Corran Kennels. See their website for details:
http://www.corranken...uk/default.html

A female brindle lurcher came into Derry City Council pound, Pennyburn, this week. In the photo she looks like a whippet but I'm told she is much larger than a whippet. I don't live far from this pound. The rep of Rainbow Rescue and Rehoming who came to pick up my foster collies, bound for a Staffordshire rescue, told me the lurcher is a nice dog. Well, if anybody trustworthy tells me they would definitely have her and can arrange transport, I would be willing to have her for short-term rescue from next Tues (Monday in a pinch). She is a surrender, so please contact the pound and Rainbow to reserve her. At least one of the wardens, Malachy, has been helpful in keeping dogs a bit longer when guaranteed someone is coming for them shortly. I can't do an open-ended foster; I need to know there will be a place for the lurcher to go to.
picture of the Derry lurcher near the bottom of this page: http://www.rainbowre.../dogs_line1.htm
Rainbow is taking 19 canines across to rescues in England this weekend, but they can't afford the s or the human-power to organise transports very frequently.
Rainbow home page: http://www.rainbowre....com/index.html

Richie (see 27th Oct) has been rehomed, I've read. Whippet types advertised currently at http://www.irishanim...agreyhound.html include Hugo and Roxy
Inishowen (the area of Co Donegal nearest to Derry) animal rescue has a small brindle female lurcher, very whippet-like. Look them up on Facebook.

if you would rather have an older puppy, Ben is safe out of Downpatrick pound but still needs a forever home. Ben is currently in Bangor, County Down, N Ireland. I'm told he is a "nice dog." He would be about 9 months old now and I believe he is housetrained. See http://www.collooney....uk/Rescue.html
